Sooo after queenstown it was time to start my trek back to Auckland. I had a different bus driver from Christchurch to Auckland called Jed and he was awesome. I said goodbye to Dave/Cuddles my driver for the whole of the South Island in queenstown. I sat at the front of the bus for all The journey as the bus was so quiet and I felt like a VIP and saw the views so much better.
The route was queenstown to Christchurch to kaikoura to Wellington to Taupo and finally Auckland.
It was a long drive to Christchurch and we got there about 4pm. I walked around for a little while but the town was deserted and is very much a building site following the two earth quakes. The cathedral has the front missing and is still under huge repairs. I went for a quick walk around the restart mall which is shops housed in shopping containers as the original buildings are all damaged. The majority of people left the bus and were flying out of New Zealand to Australia so it was a lot of goodbyes again.
The next destination was kaikoura where I planned on swimming with dolphins. But because of the bad weather the trip was cancelled as the sea was too rough. There was a trip at 5am the next day but I chose not to go on that (what's with all the early mornings?! Plus I'll get another opportunity to go on that). And I'm not
Good on boats at the best of times so decided choppy water wasn't for me! So we checked into our hostel and I was chatting to Chris and Jason who I was sharing a room with and as we had nothing planned for the afternoon we decided to have a bbq and beers. We went into town and a lady told us the supermarket was a 20 min walk away so we set off walking. All was fine until we realised we were walking into the blackest cloud ever! Well it started raining about 5 mins before we reached the supermarket and all the way back!
We were soaked, I had an umbrella so wasn't as wet as the boys. But when we got back we did realise we couldn't bbq in the rain and it did not stop all night! So we cooked our food, played card games with some other guys and watched the film into the wild.
The next day we caught the ferry back to the north island. I've been to Wellington, Taupo and Auckland again so nothing much new to update. Had a fun night out in Wellington, spent a hungover night in Taupo (being on a bus all day hungover is not something I would recommend but had a good laugh with Jed on the bus) and back in Auckland tonight to head to the bay of Islands tomorrow.
Today I've been travelling a month and although it's take a while to get used to I'm enjoying myself and so happy! New Zealand is an amazing country and I couldn't have picked a better place to start my travels. xxx
The pic attached to this blog is mine and Fiona's sad faces after saying bye to each other today. She stayed in rotorua as I came to Auckland. We were bus and dorm roomies and she is a candy crush genius who helped me complete a few levels whilst I was ready to chuck my iPad off the bus!
