The past two days have been very full and very hot. Yesterday and today I have started my day with a street food for breakfast. Different types of fresh ekmek (bread) are really popular for breakfast and are sold all over. I decided to finally try one since Im really not big on bread. Its this giant circle of fluffy bread with some sort of glaze type thing on the top. Its so fresh and soft and yummy. I just put a picture up of it too. Yesterday we went to Fatih which is kind of on the outskirts of the city and its a very conservative area, you could instantly tell by the way both men and women were dressed. I was glad we got to go somewhere like that. We started out with Princes Mosque and then the Fatih mosque. We were suppose to go to another mosque and we walked to it but an older lady came out of her house and said in turkish that it was closed for 4 years. She walked us down the street a ways in the direction we wanted to go next. Then two young boys joined us and took us around the area to our next sites. They were really cute. We also went to the aqueduct which was in use til the early 1900s and then we were able to climb up on top of part of it! Yesterday was such a hot day we tried to get everything done before noon. Once we finished the sites we were all so hungry so we stopped for some food at a nicer place I got tortellini pasta which was so good and some fresh lemonade mmm. The rest of our day was free so some of us came back to campus. Later in the evening me and Colleen met up to go to our favorite cafe for dinner since we have never had their actual food before. I got a chicken cibata type sandwich. After we had supper we decided to continue dessert week (as we delcared it) and sample some desserts. We hand motioned that we wanted a couple of their little treats on a plate (they dont know english we dont know turkish). Some how they understood and brought us a plate of like 8 different kinds and some tea. We cut each one in half so we could try each one. Then when the bill came they told us in broken english that the tea and desserts were free. I love that place!
Today like I said a hot one!!! Again I had ekmek for breakfast. This morning we visited mosques that I cant spell and I forgot my paper in the room. We visited the mosaic museum which was really cool. It was all these ancient mosaics that are still somewhat intact. We also went to a Turkish and Islamic arts museum. I just cant believe the amazing workmanship of the past and how these things are still intact. After the museum Colleen Pete Robyn and I were hungry so we went and grabbed a bite I got kaşarli pide (cheese pide) we then did a tiny bit of shopping while we walked towards the spice bazaar. Pete Robyn and Brittney went to the bazaar while Colleen and I went to this little pastry and candy shop that we ate at our first week here. We wanted to get some things to bring home. They have all these freshly made sweets and candies and turkish delights. The second we walk in they start handing us samples of things. We each wanted to buy a box of fresh chocolates but we didnt know what was what. The owner told us to come behind the counter to pick out what we wanted in our boxes and told us to try everything and anything we wanted to. Lets just say we left that shop on a big sugar high! After that shop we headed back to campus and thats where I am now. Tomorrow is another big day! Friday is class and Saids graduation. Saturday is a very full day with a traditional turkish dinner with belly dancing! Then sunday is packing and our final dinner :( how sad.
