I cant believe I just have a little over a week left in Istanbul. Where did the time go?!
The past two days have been shorter but exhausting. Yesterday was Wednesday as always we start the day off with a bus ride. This bus ride was awful for some reason I started feeling really sick and was just about ready to hop off at the next stop. The ferry ride wasnt much better I just tried to take a short nap on it to see if that helped any...not really. Go figure a day Im feeling nauseous and dizzy we do a ton of walking up hill. We walked to galata tower it was built in the 6th century and gives great views of the city from ontop. Which is what we did. THANK GOD they have elevators installed now and you only have to walk up two flights to get to the top. Then it just opens up and you can walk around the outside of the tower. Luckily it was a really nice clear day so we could see out pretty far. Then back down we went and we walked to the Museum of Turkish and İslamic art. I really enjoyed this museum not only because it was the first airconditioning Ive felt in a month but also because the pieces they had were amazing. I spent a lot of time especially at the collection of Asian artifacts. The most beautiful ceramics and paintings. There was a naval area too so lots of really old artifacts from Byzantine and Ottoman times. Lots of really old geography tools whick was pretty neat to see. We grabbed some lunch as a group and then some of us headed back to campus because we have a lot of reading to do for friday. Then I met up with Miles Pete Robyn and Brittney for dinner then myself Robyn and Pete went to a cafe to read...reading didnt really happen though. We ended up talking drinking çay and eating delicious baklava instead! oops
Today started off again not really 100% but better. Luckily it was a short day. We visited two mosques Ali Paşa and I dont know how to spell the other one. Both were very impressive I really liked the Ali Paşa though. The details in the mosques are amazing. No area is left bare and if it is its for a reason. The voids work together to create. We then ended the morning with the Museum of Modern Art. There was some really interesting pieces and exhibits here. One of Yoko Onos pieces is here. After the museum me and Colleen headed back and grabbed a quick (well turkish quick) lunch at a cafe across from campus so we could get some reading done for tomorrow class because tonight we are probably going out for dinner because its Brittneys birthday! Now im just cooling off cause its hot today and then Ill be heading outside to read for while since we have over 300 pages for tomorrow probably!
