Wow, I can't believe how long it's been since I updated! I will get caught up; it just might take me a little while.
August 2nd
This was my first full day at the program, and since it was a Sunday not much was open. A bunch of us ended up walking to the local grocery store, it is in this cute little hamlet about a mile away, with just 2 stores and a post office. We got back and went to orientation and walked through campus, it is quite lovely, all wide open with trees, and it kind of reminds me of Davis. I thought it was amusing that they even have their own version of Putah Creek, there was a sign in their waterway that said poisonous algae was there and to not come into contact with the water in any way. After we went to dinner at ASK, an amazing Italian restaurant, it was very good (I had a chicken Caesar salad).

First day of class! Everything went swell, took a cab to the classroom, it is at King's Manor in the city center and we are out in the boondocks at the college, but it works. We took a walking tour of the city, I didn't like the tour guide at all, and he was a rude little beezy. We then went home.
August 4th
Took the bus to campus this morning, it was pretty sweet and less expensive than the cab. We went on a tour of York Minster, it was so awesome!!! I can't believe how amazing that church is, the windows are just gorgeous and everything is in such great detail. One thing I thought was amusing was in the Victorian era they replaced a boss on the ceiling (where the ribs of the arches come together, it gives them more strength and stability) and it showed the Virgin Mary nursing Jesus, well... they thought that was rude so they replaced it with the Virgin Mary bottle feeding Jesus... I don't get why they did. The boss is seriously only the size of a quarter when viewed from the ground; no one would have seen it. We got to go down in the crypts and see cool Roman and Saxon ruins, and the tomb of St. William the patron saint of York. I think my favorite part was the chapter house; there are hundreds of little carved faces inside. We then climbed the tower to look out on the observation deck; it was 275 steps up a winding staircase. I should have listened to the warning about no asthmatics going up the tower, but I used my inhaler and I was OK. The view was so amazing, I can't really describe it, we could see for over 20 miles. I've gotta go, so I'll try to get more pictures up soon!
