I totally meant to update last night and forgot, so here is another double update!!
Wednesday
Wednesday morning comes around and I am more than ready to leave the hostel.I've loved my time in Edinburgh but not so much staying there.I get up and pack my stuff and talk to Mom and Bob on Skype and got ready.I then went in search of breakfast, but nothing on the Royal Mile was open at quarter to eight on a Wednesday, so I just grabbed a muffin and juice at the only café sort of thing open.I eat breakfast and check out of the hostel and walked across the street and checked into the tour.I met some nice folks and we talked for quite a while. The first thing we did was head north and stop at Dunkeld Cathedral to see the tomb of the Wolf of Badenoch; he was a really nasty fellow.Apparently his family paid quite a bit to get him buried in a catholic church, especially since he burned a few down in his time. After we stopped for lunch and I split a venison burger and haggis with mashed neeps with a lady I met named Silvia. The haggis was surprisingly good; it was kind of like meat loaf.
After lunch we went to Culloden battlefield up by Inverness, it was so surreal.I've read about this battle, I've studied it, hell I've dreamed about it and I was finally there.I unfortunately did not get a chance to explore as much as I wanted to (the rest of the tour didn't understand the bigger picture, or they aren't history nuts, either explanation works). After Culloden we went to Loch Ness and looked for Nessie (she was sleeping).I dunked my feet in the loch, it was so cold! Apparently Loch Ness is so large that you can drain it and take all the water from every river and lake in England and Wales and put it in the hole and it still won't be filled, wow.
After we went to Fort Augustus on the south end of Loch Ness and went to a show about the way of life in the Highlands. It was so awesome to see all the weaponry being used by someone who knows how.I can't get over how big those swords are one from hilt to handle reaches to my chin! That's five feet long!He also showed us how to fold a kilt, quite interesting. After that we checked into the hostel and ate dinner and chilled.
TODAY
Today we got up early and got breakfast and departed to the Isle of Skye.On the way we stopped at Eileen Donan Castle for a tour. This castle was where they filmed Highlander, Elizabeth: The Golden Age and Maid of Honor.Since the castle is still lived in we could only access a few parts, but it was way cool. After we went to the Isle of Skye. There isn't much to say except it was beautiful and I took loads of pictures. In one part I dunked my face in this magic stream to stay young forever (I have pictures!).I dunked rather more than my face, so hopefully other things will stay perky forever. The weather kind of sucked, it rained almost all day, but other than that it was awesome.Pictures to come, tomorrow we head back to Edinburgh, and then I'm off to Newcastle to see Hadrian's Wall.
