The Adventures of the Mighty Nic
Hi hi hi hi HELLO hi hi hi hi.
Woah.
Its been ages.
I am so so sorry. Life is like a Bugatti Veyron right now. Fast. And cool.
Here is a wee extract from my monthly Rotary report! Its a bit of a summary but I am sure you guys will enjoy it:
The last six weeks have been summer holidays! I am now living with my second host family here. They are really lovely people and live out in the country, in the "Schwarzwald" often known as the Black Forest (Yes that is the place where the famous Black Forest Gateau comes from!). So the last few weeks have been crazy busy :) The first two weeks of the holidays were spent preparing for my big Rotary presentation at my local host club! So after quite some time gathering pictures and information and piling them into a presentation on my computer, I was ready to go! I got up early on a Monday morning (early being 10 o clock in this case) and headed into town to the local Rotary meeting place. I was pretty nervous, as I had rehearsed only twice beforehand and this was a pretty big moment of judgement for me, as it was to be my first ever presentation at the club! I spoke for about 30 minutes, giving a broad and (hopefully!) interesting overview of my hometown, my host rotary club, New Zealand culture, Nature, and typical cuisine! The feedback and interest I received afterwards was truly overwhelming. I was overjoyed to hear that the club was pleased to experience "an exceptionally charming, open-minded, and pleasant young man, which one could clearly tell enjoyed sharing knowledge of his homeland with us". This comment, along with "We were all truly impressed by Nicolas' excellent German ability" were both published in the weekly Rotary newsletter, along with a photo of myself in my Rotary outfit clearly explaining something rather important (photo in attached newsletter)! I was of course proud and amazed at the publication of such kind and meaningful words. I feel like the luckiest boy in the world to be sponsored by such an amazing club in New Zealand and to be honestly appreciated by my host club here in Germany! I guess the other reason why I would feel lucky would be my adventures during the next three weeks following that crucial presentation! I have been to the Spanish island of Mallorca with my host family for a week, staying in a villa with a swimming pool and a view of the sea. Directly afterwards I found myself in Bayern (a deep and traditional part of Germany), on a dairy farm, milking cows, chopping wood, and donning my lederhose every evening for the local German beer and music festival held in the very small town centre! I even participated in a traditional german farmboy competition, in which I had to jump over two stacked haybales, hammer a 10 centimeter nail into a chunk of wood, and then climb a rather treacherous wooden trellis to reach a charming young lady in traditional German dress who had strategically positioned herself on the top of a balcony. Then came the moment of truth. The timer was not to be stopped before I gave the young lass a traditional German kiss on the cheek! All this foolhardy business was conducted while racing against another competitor on a parallel course who also desired the honour and glory awaiting upon the balcony. I was both surprised and amused when I managed to take away fifth place in a field of ten purely German farmboy competitors! So yeah. I hope that was a rollercoaster ride of terribly written adventure for you guys. I miss you all like crazy and can't wait to be back home soon! Although at the same time I am truly dreading leaving... Love to all and see you in like a few months! Peace :) x x x x x x x (p.s. Clever omittion of remaining time here in Germany huh Ariana?)- comments
