Hi, we've now arrived in Bangkok after a nightmare 15 hour journey from Siem Reap in Cambodia yesterday. The first half of the journey was spent driving in and out of potholes at 50 miles per hour in a boiling hot minibus while we entertained ourselves by killing mosquitos. This was to reach the border from Siem Reap. Got across easily and then had a 4 hour journey to Bangkok (on proper roads!).
Since our last journal we've been busy following the tourists around Cambodia. Had a really nice time in the relaxed beach resort of Sahanoukville before catching the bus to Siem Reap to visit the temples of Angkor. We hired bikes for 2 days and cycled around the various temples. The most famous being Angkor Wat. The whole area was really impressive and we had a great 4 days there. Lots of monkeys coming out of the jungle and temple ruins to explore. Must have cycled over 50kms in 2 days and could hardly sit down afterwards but glad we did it that way rather than on a tuk tuk. Michael was attacked by a monkey but he managed to get on his bike and cycle away before being bitten so that was amusing. Less amusing was when Michael led me into the jungle around the wall of a temple and we bumped into a poisenous snake.
Graham caught us up in Siem Reap and made the journey to Bangkok with us.
Now we are in Bangkok and today me and Michael went off to visit the Royal Palace and 2 temples before looking around China Town and taking a boat up the river. Tonight we may take a trip to one of the bar streets to see what everyone is talking about when they mention Bangkok. Although within about 2 minutes of walking from our guest house last night it became very obvious...
Bye for now
Nicola and Michael
