So, the champagne backpacker decided to sack off the 14 hour bus journey to Bangkok and flew in to meet Paul Milligan, a friend of a friend who was coming for two weeks and wanted to come trekking in Chiang Mai with me. So I booked us on a tour leaving in 2 days - just enough time to finish looking round the places I missed in Bangkok last time round and take in a show which takes you through the ages of Thailand and has floating markets on stage and it actually rains on stage! OR SO I THOUGHT!!
We ended up meeting randomly on the main backpacker street, 'Khao San Road', when I arrived as I couldn't get through to his mobile, and that really just sums up the next few weeks, Random!
Paul had booked us into a really nice hotel which had a pool (ok, ok, I know I am meant to be sluming it but I didn't have any choice in this! Honest!) so on the first morning we decided to go up and have a little dip before heading out for the day as Bangkok is soooo hot. I suggested sitting on the comfy deckchairs so Paul went to sit down and it collapsed, at which point I wet myself laughing only to realise he couldn't actually get back get up! He had trapped his fingers in the chair which then ended up with Paul in a blue hospital gown and a drip plus an over night stay in hospital to have his fingers pinned back together GULP! (I was funny though!) anyhow I smuggled beer and ice cream into his hospital room to make up for laughing (What a great bedside manner eh!!) we randomly hatched a new plan to go to Cambodia instead of northern Thailand, as the trekking with pins would have been a struggle.
We stayed a few extra days in Bangkok, with highlights being nearly getting stung again by the "the royal palace is shut" tuk tuk driver scam AGAIN when we went to the Grand palace, going to a ping pong show (just because thats what you do in BKK!!), drinking 80% proof whisky and lots of BUCKETS! (buckets literally being buckets of alcohol!!!!) Will hopefully get photo's of all this on line soon to do the talking for me!!
