After a late night last night, getting up and the bags to the coach by 5.50am was horrendous. We had time for breakfast and we were off by 6.30. I definitely won't miss the early starts.
So today is the last day. The last day we'd all have breakfast together and be on the coach together. We had a long drive down to Sydney, but most of us were so tired we slept a lot of the way. We had a few stops on the way down, watched a film, swapped addresses and before we knew it, we were on the outskirts of Sydney with the outline of the city in view. We drove round to Mrs Macquaries Chair for our first proper glimpse of the harbour bridge and the opera house. Unfortunately the sun was behind them so the pictures were s***. I wasn't too bothered though as I still had a week to get some. We jumped back on the coach for our last stretch into Sydney and John put our coach song on one last time - Timomatic - Set It Off. Everyone was singing and it was quite a weird moment, in a really gay emotional way.
We got dropped off at the hotel and finally had to say our goodbyes. It was over. Some of these people I will never see or speak to again (thank the lord) and some people will be friends for the rest of my life. But all good things have to come to an end eventually. Jade, Fiona and I had booked a triple room in a hostel down the road, so we reluctantly trudged off to find it. It soon became apparent why they call it backpacking, and not big bag with wheels ing. What a pain in the arse. Pavements, stairs, people, gravel. Bloody everything. And I always seem to get a tank slapper going on half way across the road, making me have to turn around and shout at it like it's a naughty dog. Not a great look.
We checked into our dive of a hostel and chilled for a little bit. Then it was time to get ready and meet everyone in town for one final night out. Just grin and bear it kinda thing. We met a few at the Holiday Inn at the end of our road and met the others at Scary Canary where we had a few drinks. We probably had a group of about 35 - 40 people and trying to get everyone across Sydney together was a mission. Eventually a few of us got pissed off, while others went to bar hop on George Street. Yep, ta-ta.
We chatted about the days events back in the room before eventually calling it a day.......
