We are off on our big adventure
Xin chào from Vietnam!!
Sorry we've not written for a while, we've been having lots of fun and enjoying ourselves! We crossed into Vietnam and travelled straight to an island in the very South called Phu Quoc. We were staying in a guest house that was right on the beach and you could hear the waves all through the guest house. We had an awesome few days just chilling out, sunbathing and swimming. We also went snorkelling and visited a pearl farm where we bought a pearl straight from the oyster (check out the pictures). There were lots of cute animals on the island including a particular breed of dog that have a mohawk ridge of hair down their back. Clare snuck in lots of shnuggles with a tiny puppy in one bar and lots of cuddles with a Dachsund dog in our guesthouse called Bean-Bean. She's like Dr Dolittle!
We travelled from Phu Quoc to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) by minibus, boat, then another minibus. We thought we were doing the 8 hour bus journey on a normal bus as that's what we'd paid for, but it turned out that we were scrunched into a minibus with 3 families and loads of luggage on their way home after the Vietnamese New Year holidays. It made from a hot, interesting and cramped ride!
Ho Chi Minh City was fun. We've never seen so many motorbikes in our lives. Crossing the road is an adventure. There's no point waiting for a gap in the traffic, because one never comes. You just have to fix a point on the opposite side of the road and walk out into the traffic, it all then drives around you as you cross. We visited the War Remnants Museum and the Cu Chi Tunnels. Both were really interesting but incredibly one-sided. Vietnam can't be an easy place to visit if you're American.
We spent a few days at the coast at Mui Ne after HCMC. It's a big kite surfing place but there was no wind for almost the whole time we were there! It's a very relaxed and chilled out place and we enjoyed spending time there. We also found an awesome seafood restaurant with a very cheap menu. They also sold bottles of local rum for 40,000 dong (£1.50) which you drink with lemon and sugar. Safe to say that a few bottles were consumed..!
There's lots more for us to tell you, but this email is getting a bit long now. We promise to write again soon.
Check out the latest pictures below. I'm afraid there's not much rain in them..!
