Nicky and Ben's Travels
Raratonga: drinking, bottom wriggling, mopeds, rain, more rain, tropical, s*** head and chess.
I was over the moon to find that we had hot water when we arrived in Vara's beach house, I couldn't stand another 12 days of freezing showers!
To my dismay though, the weather took a turn for the worst for the first 5 days after arriving to Raratonga, and as the water was heated by solar panels disaster struck. To pass the time on our rainy days we learnt to play the card game "s*** head" and also played alot of chess (which I beat Ben with 9-1-hee hee). We made really close friends here as we were all stranded in a room together (One step outside and you looked like you had been on the Maid of the Mist in Niagara).
The funniest part of the stay in Raratonga was our evening out in the local disco. We had free vodka for the first half an hour and then the drinks were really cheap there after (even Ben got dragged up onto the dance floor, I still have the bruises to prove it). Anyway, we got on out bus to take us back to the hostel (which is half an hour drive). The bus was an 8 seater and had at least 20 passengers squeezed into, it also had dodgy lights becasue the bus driver had to kick them to get them to work. Anyway, five minutes into the journey the bus stops at a super market so we can collect some refreshments. Ben decides that this is the perfect moment to escape from the claustraphobic, over crowded bus and tells me that he is going to walk home. I tell him not to be silly, but as there was no way of convincing him overwise I end up walking home with him in the puring rain. Well I say walking, stomping in muddy puddles is more accurate. After waling for about 45minutes a taxi stops for us and we get into the taxi with the man telling us it would have taken at least 3 hours to walk home! It's a good job that taxi stopped for us.
Anyway I clean my teeth for bed and arrive back to find Ben now spread horizontally across it. I could not budge him and so had to sleep all night on a spare bed! What a nightmare he was!
The mopeds were a highlight and we now have Rartonga driving licences- yey.
The local areobics class with Kate was also good fun.
