Nicky and Ben's Travels
Ok we arrive at San Francisco, and we have an hour to get the car checked out. The girl who took our details for the car rental also kept our details on where to return the car, in this big city Ben and I are hoping that, by chance we will find the car hire place before the hours up. In despair, and with only half an hour to go, we decide to pull up and ask the nearest hotel if they have come across our car hire company, the reply was "no I haven't heard of them, and no you cannot use our phone or have any help what so ever". We step out of the hotel to find people fighting and shouting and generally looking very scarey, so we rush to the car wondering why we have come to a place as scarey as it were (we later find out that we stumbled into the one area that our guide book tells us to avoid).
Out of luck, and of course intellegence, we do find the car hire place before our time is up and we check into our hostel for the next 4days (USAHOSTELS).
July the 4th was amazing! We hobbled over to the fireworks by the waterside (about ten hills up and down the road from us), to see the most amazing fireworks I have ever seen(accompanied with Amerian music of course). I was definately in America, I felt like a cheerleader saluting the country, or that I should be wearing a blue and red hat, with ribbons, dancing in a carneval, it even brought a tear to my eye. The ironic thing about the whole experience was that on the lead up to the fireworks, an english Rolling Stones tribute band was playing.
Unfortunately, the most common phrase used in San Francisco is "can you spare any change", and we were in fact conned out of $20, from a guy who states he was mugged in the area we arrived to when we tried to return our car. He says that he is from Sydney and that we can eat anything from his resturante, but we're not holding our breaths on this one, watch this space for the result.
Alcatraz and Golden Gate park are worth a visit, but to be honest this wasn't our favourite city.
