Hi,
Spent 11 days in Bolivia (bit behind with my blog again!)
Was really good, had a day in La Paz, not that much to do, a few colonial buildings, witches market, but had an amazing night out there! 2 of the group left us there so we had a fun last night out with them. Got 2 swiss girls joining us who are really nice.
After La Paz had a 4 day 4-by-4 excursion in the salt flats and countryside which was so beutiful- had lots of fun making crazy photos in the salt flats and saw lagoons full of flamingos and some amazing scenery. Had no showers for 4 days and all of us in the same room each night but was definatley worth it!
Then spent a day in Puno- visited the silver mines which was really interesting, awful working conditions but was quite fun exploring it- absailing bits and climbing through lots of tunnels. One of the guys in our group had to run up a hill with a lit dynamite package in his hand and then run back down before it exploded!
Then we went to sucre, a really nice city. Went on the city tour to an old castle and some nice squares and parks, and then next day went rock clmbimg, which Ive never done before but was really fun. Visited an orphanage, which seemed really well run and the kids all seemed really happy. Took them some presents and a cake and sweets and had a little party.
Then we took an internal flight to Santa cruize, which was completely different to the rest of Bolivia, was really hot and humid as was at sea level rather than the high altitude we had been at. Went to a water park on the first day a butterfly/bird park on the second which was good- lots of butterflys, toucons, parrots, a sloth, and lots of other birds in this huge enclosure thing that you walked through.
Then it was an overnight train ride close to the Brazilian border, which took 16 hours instead of 12 as apparently the train went the wrong way for a few hours at some point in the night!
Anyway, this blg is already very long so will write about Brazil another day!
