Hi,
Well ive been in Peru for almost 3 weeks now, and crossing the boarder to Bolivia tommorow so though should try and write about some of the stuff ive done here!
Started off in lima, met up with my GAP group, who are all really nice. There are 15 of us in total, mostlly English, but 2 irish, one austrailian and one from New Zealand. We visited the old town, looked round a monastry and got to know the group a bit.
Then we went down to Pisco and stayed there overnight, the next day going sandboarding and sandbugging, which was really fun, we also visited the ballestrast islands and saw sea lions, penguins and loads of birds, and a Pisco sour factor- their national drink.
The next day flew over the Nasca lines on a small plane, was amazing to see them all properly, they were really impressive from the air. Went to a traditional resterant for tea where they cooked our food in the groud, was really delicious. Then an overnight bus to Araquipa and had a couple of days there, a really nice city, before setting off on a overnight tour to colca cannyon, which was amazing scenery, did a bit a walking to get used to the hight altitude in preperation for the inca trail, went to hot spings, saw lots of lamas and alpackas in the national park.
Then went to the scared valley and visited some old inca ruins and the next day set off on the inca trail. The rest of my group were doing the Lares trek instead as they hadn´t booked early enough to get onto the inca trail, so got placed with another GAP group for the trail, but they were really nice too. Really enjoyed the trail, wasn´t as hard as I had been expecting, though there were quite a few big mountains to walk up! The camping a night was fun too, played cards and stuff. The trail was 4 days, 3 nights and then we reached Muchu Picchu, which was amazing, this huge old inca city situated in the middle of loads of huge mountains- was probably the best place I have ever been to. Got the morning to explore before returing to Cusco in the aftrernoon.
Had a few days to recover in Cusco, did a city tour to see the cathedral, museums and lots of inca ruins, went white water rafting which was really good, and had a few nights out in cusco trying to dance Salsa with the locals!
Now we are on the edge on Lake Titicaca, yeaterday visited an island on the lake and then stayed with a local family overnight at a small traditional village on the edge of the lake. They dressed us up in their traditional clothes and we went to a dance in the village hall. This morning we visited the floating islands, which were amazing, all their houses, boats and stuff were made out of reeds built on top of floating islands of reeds on the lake.
Anyway, thinks thats the main stuuf ive been up to in Peru, onto Bolivia tommorow.
