Hello guys and welcome to the last entry from the North Island. Its been a pretty crazy week. We have wanted to see and do as much as possible so we have been doing a lot of driving, but it has been totally worth it. There was one last stint to do, and thats from Lake Taupo to Wellington.
We headed south out of Lake Taupo, only getting 5 minutes down the road before we found a car park overlooking the lake where we spent an hour playing cricket. By the time we left we weren't going to be getting to Wellington until around 6pm. We decided to book ourselves onto a ferry crossing for 3 o'clock in the morning.
The first part of the drive was over Tongariro National Park, the setting for the final stages of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, where Mount Doom is. We drove for a couple of hours without seeing a single sign of life, it was absolutely beautiful! As we approached Wellington we side tracked towards the ocean and stumbled across a vast beach, just as the sun was setting. We spent a few hours here playing beach cricket and football with no one around and watched an incredible sun set. It was the perfect way to end our trip on the North Island. We rocked up in a car park in downtown Wellington at around half 6pm, cooked a pasta dinner and went to sleep at around 8, hoping to get a few hours before our alarms went off.
Sure enough I felt awful at 1 in the morning, but we made it onto the ferry and found a seat and managed to get 3 hours before we landed on the South Island!!
