So I realize that we are back in the US now and have been for a couple weeks, but I felt like we couldn't leave any dedicated blog readers wondering how our trip finished. So I will attempt to sum up the remaining locations from what now seems like memmories of a dream.
We arrived in Venice from the cruise ship from Corfu (I know I randomly wrote about Austria already which comes later). Venice was such a cute Italian island that has signs everywhere because it is impossible to follow a map of its VERY narrow streets and random streets that end in a canal. Cute canals with gondolas were everywhere. In the morning we went to a glass-blowing demo and then a lace-making demo (both custom to Venice). Then we went in St. Mark's cathedral, which is quite different because the inside is composed of gold mosiacs forming murals throughout. It was very neat. The cathedral was made to house St. Mark's remains. Then Nick and I headed off on our own to see the beautiful views of the Rialto and Accedemia bridges (Rialto is the pic here). Nick was feeling some motion sickness (I think from the cruise, but he swore it was from the island "sinking") so we took it slow at first and got some drugs at the local pharmacy (who knows what they gave him but it worked!). We strolled the streets and shopped in the local market buying some glass and admiring the local artists paintings of canals and bridges. We ran into 2 of our Contiki friends that said that the Guggenheim Collection was awesome- so we decided to check it out. We should have thought about it more realistically because neither likes modern art. We found our selves laughing at those that admired the simple collection... o well. Then we met up with the Contiki group and took a romantic gondola ride through the canals of Venice :) Nick and I then split for dinner and ate in a restaurant near St. Mark's Square- we had the entire place to ourselves. The Italian food was good, but we decided our budget didn't really allow us to have the best home-made Italian. We got our last real Italian gelato before taking the river cruise back to our hotel. There was a storm approaching so everyone in Venice was putting up blocks to prevent too much flooding. They estimate in 40 years at this rate Venice will sink.
