Off to lake Mahinapua today - first stop on route was to cape foulwind and Tauranga Bay. When we left the hostel the sun was shining but by the time we got there it was raining! We started the 1 hour walk anyway as it'd just be a waste to sit on the bus but once we were up on top of the hill and starting the walk down the coastal path the heavens opened! Nick didn't have his waterproof jacket so decided to run! I walked with Chris, his grilfriend Hannah had gone for the safe option of staying on the bus! We got to the point that is closest to Australia but apparently however hard you look you'll never see it!
Chris and I managed to complete the walk in around 20mins, the rain sped us up lol. we were soaked to the skin. The weather cleared up slightly again and we stopped to see Punakaiki Pancake Rocks, we started the walk in sunshine but halfway round it pured down again, so after finally drying after the first walk we were soaked through again!
We drove through some amazing rain forestry today. Our next stop was in Greymouth where we went shopping for tonights fancy dress party and BBQ. Our theme for the party was Tight & Bright!
From here we arrived at Lake Mahinapua Hotel aka The Poo Pub! We met the famous Les, NZ's oldest publican at 91 years old! We all walked down to the lkae where me and the girls sat chattering away in the sun and Nick and the boys had a hardcore game of footie, Nicks team winning of course!
In the evening we had a huge BBQ before putting on our costumes for the fancy dress party at the Poo Pub. Nick wore a childs pink t-shirt with his bright orange swim shorts and a pink cow girl hat - the top was ultra tight and the rest very bright! Some of the costumes were hilarious, especially all the boys!
Nick and I wanted to buy ourselves some Pounamu (aka greenstone or Nephrite Jade) - it is a very special stone to the Maori's and it has many deep meanings. The Pounamu comes from a local river, one we drove over earlier today, Arahura Rover. Our hostel sell this local stone and during the party we each bought a necklace, along with Hannah and Chris. As it's local we got a really good price too.
The party was great and went on into the early hours of the morning, it was an awesome night and such a good laugh! As the pictures prove lol
