Right, Day two of our trek. We trekked from Phakding to Namche Bazar which is a traditional Sherpa village that lies at 3440m. After a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast we set off for Jorsale where we had lunch.
We did a 3.5 hour trek both before and after lunch and I thought that the day was going to kill me as it was constantly uphill (no flat or downhill!), and every time we went up I was constantly thinking 'when is this ever going to stop?'. It was a major relief to arrive at Namche Bazar as we had a day of rest planned for the next day for acclimatisation. Our hotel was nice in terms of room size and CLEAN toilets which are very hard to come by in the mountains.
Our third day was spent in Namche Bazar and surrounding areas, we did a small trek to the national park to aid with acclimatisation and to keep our legs moving. This is where we got our first views of Everest and gee.....it's far away! This is when we realised that we had a long way to go.
We spent an hour admiring the views of Thamserku, Ama Dablam, Lhotse Shar (8400m), Lhotse (8516m), Nuptse and Mount Everest (8848m). In one view we had three out of 14, 8,000 ers in the world. This is also where we could see Tengboche, our next destination which seems to be so near yet so far. After taking in the views we visited the Sherpa museum and Everest documentation centre which was fascinating. We then rested all day watching an Everest film and playing cards.
