Here we are in the home of the Incas.........Cusco, Peru.
Unfortunatley the Internet has been awful and also due to the fact that we?ve partied too much I haven?t had time to write any blogs. So here is a quick update.......
.....From Sucre we took a bus to La Paz but almost froze to death on the way. Anything and everything was placed on our bus including dead goats and families of 10 who?d only booked two seats and would then give you the children that couldn?t fit on their seat to you.
La Paz was mad and crazy in lots of different ways. Loads of fantastic clothes stalls, I am now the proud owner of a baby alpaca jumper and leg warmers, and fake DVD?s which are the speciality of La Paz. Steve went a bit mad and bought 40 of them!! Went and did a bike tour down the worlds most dangerous road. Thankfully now vehilcles don?t pass down it much anymore but you can still see the wheels and other parts of trucks in the valley below. The track is 34km long and every few Kilometers there are crosses showing the spot where someone died, the bigger the cross the more people that died there. About half way down is a big cross where abus of 100 people went over in a bus in 2004 and a bit further a cross where a tourist went over in March. As you can imagine I went nice and slowly.
After La Paz we headed to Copacabana on lake Titikaka. We spent most of our time chilling out in the local beer gardens, reading books and playing with the pet monkey that liked to eat popcorn and drink coke.
Tried to leave Copacabana on Wedensday but the Peruvians had blocked the border and said they would stone the bus and steal our stuff if we trid to get through. Thankfully the next day we managed to get through withought being stoned to death. It was?a massive journey to Cusco but it seemed to go on forever. The bus didn?t even stop for lunch, instead we picked up two local women on the side of the road who carried to cooked lambs in a blanket and hacked up sections on the bus for you served with potatos out of a bucket. This time I stuck with my Twix chocolate bar.
We have been in cusco for the past two days adn have bumped into about 20 people we have met over the last month. Cusco is an amazing city although full of tourists all waiting to do there Machu Pichu trip. The main square is surrounded by three beautiful churches and the streets are full of small little shops and restaurants. You can get everything imaginable to eat here including Curry, Chinese, Mexican or even some local llama or guinea pig if you want!! We have arrived in the middle of the sun god festival so every day there are street parades, parties and dancing.
Tonight I?m sure will be another night of parties and dancing...........hope your all working hard!!
