We?re now in Buenos Aires and are going to put our feet up for a week and relax.............spent the first few days looking around, enjoying the cafes and restaurants and watching some Tango in the local square. Also managed to do some shopping as it?s really cheap here and of course there is eating steak. It`s about 5 pounds for the best steak and it?s absolutley enormous, I haven`t been able to finish one yet but of course steve has managed to eat his and the rest of mine!!
Went for a tango lesson yesterday with another girl from our hostel. I couldn?t persuade Steve so left him to drink in the bar. It was a really good lesson except the girl I went with was a professional dancer and made me look like a hippo skipping across the room. I definatley managed to do all the steps correct and in the right order but I wasn?t so good on looking delicate and moody, it`s difficult to pull the face when you keep treading on the poor guys feet!!
That night we went out to our first big club. It all kicked off at 2am so we went for a very late dinner meeting up with James and Fiona from Ireland who we met in Rio and Jody from Holland who we?d met in the Pantanal, a bit of a reunion. Suprisingly enough we had steak for dinner and then started drinking before heading to the Museum club. It was built by the guy who built the Eifle tower and was amazing inside and packed. After a few more drinks we moved to the dance floor and as James and Fiona had also done the Tango lesson I practised with james to various Michael Jackson hits mixed in with some Madonna, honestly we looked good. Unfortunatley every time the boys went to the toilet the locals would move in with their cheesy chat up line, my favourite was "would you like a latin lover". They of course weren?t as keen when Steve came back!!
Now writing this at the end of our week...........have now visited a number of clubs until the early hours of the morning but have managed to get up and visit some cultural places. The strangest has been the cemetry which everyone raves about. It has tombs for the rich and famous of Buenos Aires including that of Eva Peron "Evita". Although it?s interesting it?s a very creepy place as you can see all the coffins in the tombs and there are cats everywhere, Steve reckons they live off the dead bodies!!
On sunday we went out for a walk, every corner we turned on to there was some kind of market, outdoor concert and Tango performances. Had a great day walking around but? didn?t buy anything other than some empinades which are lovely pastry filled with amazing things from veg to steak!!
Leaving for Uruguay tomorrow with james and Fiona to visit montivedeo, the capital, and to get another stamp in our passport!!
