Nicola and Max's Travels
Arrived in Cairns from Alice Springs on 9th Jan to the cooler temperatures of 30 degrees. Quickly realised it is the rainy season here, torrential downpours every day, but still mixed in with sun!
We are staying in a lovely hostel and have met some really nice people. We spent a day on Fitzroy Island, snorkelling and walking in the rainforest. It is stinger season here so we were clad in glamorous stinger suits which are really a full body pair of tights! We spent a day out at the Great Barrier Reef where I snorkelled and Max dived. We saw lots of colourful fish and some turtles, the coral is beautiful and the water so clear. The crew assured me that coming from Scotland we wouldn't need wet suits for snorkelling, and sure enough the sea was like a big bath at 30 degrees!
Also planned for here is a day trip white water ratfing and a night in the rainforest searching for platapus.
After this I am starting to make my way home, and Max will be continuing your regular updates and photos from the hot and sunny other side of the World!
