Nicola and Max's Travels
HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Hope everyone has a great 2006!
Driving from Brisbane to Sydney in our lovely rented car (imaginativly named Sheila) didn't take as long as planned. Guess there is a limit to how many sun drenched, golden sandy beaches with lots of tanned people you can see in one week, sorry everyone! So we had a stop off in the Blue Mountains, so named for the blue mist that comes off the Eucalyptus trees and hangs above the mountains - actually smells of eucalyptus too. We went up the worlds steepest railway, so steep that the seats had you lying down and when you went up the hill you were almost standing! If it were a ride at Alton Towers there would be shoulder harnesses but not even a lap belt here.....
Arrived in Sydney in time for New Year, seeing the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House finally made it hit home that we are on the other side of the world! Spent Hogmanay on a boat floating around in front of the Opera house with an excellent view of the fireworks which were absolutely amazing, no one sang Auld Lang Syne though. Due to many a free drink the night before we made a safe decision to hide in the air con on New Years day, 44 degrees was just a bit too much!
Next stop Alice Springs...
