alex's most Excellent adventures!
Arrived in Bangkok 4th of april 2006 for the start of my adventure! First impressions of Bangkok (thailands capital and gateway to asia) was how mad it is. There is so much traffic, everyone has a bike or car and the roads are a free for all.
Stayed on the khao San road which is the backpackers ghetto of bangkok and it was everthing i expected and more! The road was buzzing and had a real energy about it! It was loud, colourful, vibrant, and just crazy! The street are lined with bars, dodgy tourist offices, and stalls selling everything from fake trainer, cds, id cards etc to tattos and hair braids!
First night woodsy and i were offered a parts as extras in a thai movie about the king, would have been an awesome story to tell but were'nt sure whether it was legit. As a farrang (foreigner) you are always having to beware of scams and cons, especially on the khao san. The best thing is though, there are travellers here from all over the world and it creates an awesome atmosphere.
First night we met a couple of lads from london who were medics, one studied at exeter (small world). So from then on in the rest of the nite revolved around playing drinking games and playing 'fives' speaking only thai. . . . . . was savage! Later that night woodsy and i also indulged in some scorpian and silk worm eating. Not your usual saturday nite kebab but wasnt too bad! So got that one ticked that one off the list!
