We got the bus from Bangkok up to Ayuthaya, the bus dropped us off somewhere in the town but we couldn't figure out where we were on the map, we walked for ages in the boiling heat with our rucksacks searching for the street with all the guesthouses, I could barely manage to carry my rucksack by the time we got to the guesthouse. Ayuthaya is a UNESCO world heritage site and has lots of old ruins of temples and royal palaces. We went on a night Tuk Tuk tour of all the old Wats (temples) as many of them are lit up at night, it was really nice to do a bit of sightseeing out of the heat and when it was less busy. Ayuthaya had quite a lot of flooding and a lot of homes and shops had been completely flooded out. The next day we went on a cycling tour of the city, we which makes it so much easier to get around as all the temples are quite spread out. We also went to Ayuthaya study centre museum apparently the study centre cost 6.8 million dollars and was paid for by the Japanese government as a gift for the Kings birthday. The museum was quite good and had loads of little models of how they city was years ago. The city is surrounded by a river (which is now all flooded!) and it was once the capital of Thailand. It was interesting place to go to, to see a bit of Thailand's history. We went out in the evening and listened to some local bands, they were playing a bit of The Beatles and a few other western tunes! They were actually quite good.
