Day 5 started once again with clear blue sky and very cold. A super breakfast in the upmarket surroundings of the grandstand at the racecourse. What greeted us for the first 28 miles to pitstop one was the most unenjoyable cycle I have had thru the rush hour traffic in Wigan and Preston.
Leaving behind the conurbations of Manchester was a dream and we then had two fantastic sessions through the edge of the lakes and up over Shap a 7 mile climb but not too steep and equally an exhilarating descent at over 35 mph for some time and finally arrived later than usual to camp in the grounds of Hutton in the Forest Castle Everyone was in top form after a great afternoon.
Day 6
Once again the sun shone once it was up and another 100 miles lay ahead of us and crossing the border into Scotland. A nice 30 mile first leg saw us run together for a while before crossing the border at Gretna However that is where the fun stopped because while we were running on the old A road it's surface was the roughest ever it rattled us all to bits but once again we kept a good team of 13 together for some time.
A puncture for one of the team and a coffee stop put an end to that but all were in by 4.30
Over 600 miles done with 340 to go including the marathon 127 miles tomorrow.
