Today we got up, ate breakfast, and headed out to the Vatican. Technically Vatican City is its own country, so this makes 10! We took the metro there (we are really good at metros now) and started to follow the hordes of people heading toward the Vatican. On the way walking there, we were approached by people selling tours and, after one person reduced the price for us, we signed up. The tour guide, a former cheerleader from New York, was extremely entertaining (and energetic). The tour was well worth the price- it took us through the Vatican museums, showing all the important paintings and sculptures, through the Sistine Chapel (absolutely breathtaking, it would take hours to take it all in) where all of the amazing Michaelangelo paintings are, then through Saint Peter's Bascillica. We have now been in all 3 of the 3 biggest churches in Europe! Yay for us! We checked out the crypts, and the extremely colorful Swiss guards (bit of trivia- their uniforms were designed by Michaelangelo), then left. Earlier in the trip Nina was sick, and today I was sick. With a horrible sore throat and probably a fever, I need a break, so we found a cute cafe to have some lunch then we made our way back to a park near the Colosseum where we lounged and read (and I fell asleep). We sat watching a couple taking wedding pictures with the Colosseum in the background thinking this moment was pretty perfect... until a dog came and pooped right next to us. Great.
We came back to the hostel for the free pizza (gotta love free!!) and we sat in the bar drinking a beer and playing cards. We met 2 guys from Canada who talked our ears off the rest of the night. And yes, they talked more than me! I know it's hard to believe...
