Howdy folks!! Its been a long time but in the land where everything is fast and convenient I've struggled to find good internet! Even this is a little dodgy and I will cry if it crashes on me!! I've a lot to catch up on!! Lets start from the beginning shall we...
Sunday 6th July
I spent my last hours in Fiji on tinternet getting caught up, then made it to the airport to find that the plane was delayed by about 1.5 hours! Bloody Fiji Time! I finally boarded and off we went! The 10 hour flight was pretty good, the only thing was my TV screen didnt work and they had some great movies!! Oh well! We landed safe and I made it to the hostel... not so nice I must say! But it was on Melrose so I made the most of it and went in search of some good food!! I found a Johnny Rockets which was great, I got an Oreo milkshake... yummy!! I just crashed after that, jet lag had kicked in!
Monday 7th July
After a frustrating start to the day and finding not so helpful people in the hostel and the street I made it to Hollywood baby!! I went straight to get myself a City Sightseeing bus pass, and got a Movie Star Homes Tour as well, so off I went! I can't really remember who's house we saw but I do remember Lynsey Lohans and some people from the original Bewitched! No Mel Gibson or Johnny Depp or Sharon Stone!! Once we finished that tour I spent some time walking the Walk of Fame and looking at the Graumanns Chinese Theatre and the hand and footprints of some mega stars!! Then I took the Sightseeing tour which took us around Rodeo Drive, Sunset Strip, Hollywood Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard... you get the picture! Once I got back from the tour I went to see a movie, You Don't Mess With the Zohan, in the Chinese Theatre, just to say I've seen a movie there! Then it was back to the hostel where I relaxed!
Tuesday 8th July (Happy Birthday Granny!!)
Universal Studios today!!! Wooooo!!! I went with a French guy called Come (with an accent over the o so it was pronounced like Coome). He was soooo slow and I wished I had just gone by myself, but it was good to share the joy of the rides with someone! We arrived there 2.5 hours later than I wanted to but atleast we got there! First up was House of Horrors where people enjoying trying to give you heart attacks, it was fun!! Then was Shrek 4D, an altogether more calming experience!! We went on the Studio Tour after that and we saw loads including the sets of Jaws, Psycho, Desperate Housewives (they were actually filming but the big trucks blocked our view so didn't see anyone famous!). We also saw special effects like water effects and the car effects in The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift! We saw the remains of the backlots lost in the fire which was kinda weird. Once we finished the tour it was on to the Simpsons Ride!! They had a feature length episode especially for the ride which played as you w ere waiting in line! It was an amazing ride! Just a simulator but it was hilarious!! Then off to Jurassic Park, an amazing log flume which we got soaked on! Then The Mummy ride, a high speed rollercoaster which was over way too quickly for my liking!! Terminator 2 3D was also done as well as souvenir shopping in the Universal City Walk! An amazing day, even with slowcoach!!
Wednesday 9th July
Today was a transit day! I missed the 12pm Greyhound so had to wait around for the 3pm bus to San Diego! On the way down to San Diego we passed through Long Beach (woop woop) and I saw a sign saying "Stricken and Snivelly Funeral Home, Crematorium, and Flower Shop".... I burst out laughing... people looked at me on an otherwise silent bus! Its like something outta Family Guy! After that amusement it was another 1.5 hours on the bus before I got to San Diego (meaning a whales vagina - Anchorman, classic!!). The hostel was nice and slap bang in the middle of the historic Gaslamp Quarter! I fell in with 2 Irish girls almost immediately which was good! I treated myself to a TGI Fridays for dinner then just went for an early night!
Thursday 10th July
It's San Diego Zoo day!!! Woohoo!!! And just to let all you Anchorman fans know... it wasn't actually filmed in the zoo, I was very disappointed to learn this! Anyway, the zoo was huge... a 35 min trip BY BUS took you around the outside of it, it couldn't get down the middle!! I must also mention that today I spoke to Carl for the first time in months... wots that all about???? Get it sorted man!! So i spent the day frollicking in the zoo, catching the Skyfari (a cable car to the top), and looking at animals! Fun times! They had polar bears and giant pandas as well as the usual zoo animals! But it was a really fun day and I bought myself a few zoovenirs (he he he) to remind myself of it! I spent over 8 hours in the zoo... very tired when I got back so decided to join in on Movie Night... wot was the movie? Yep, Anchorman, "Stay classy, San Diego!"! Brilliant!
Friday 11th July
Today was a window shopping day really, and a food kinda day! Me and the 2 Irish girls, Ellen and George, went to Cafe 222 for our brunch... it was good food!!! Then we went our seperate ways as I was planning on going to the USS Midway, an aircraft carrier/museum. But i decided I needed a watch so went looking for one and bumped into the girls again! So we just spent the rest of the day walking around the shops! Some fantastic shops, namely Forever XXI! Cheap and fashionable!! That night we went on a Ghost tour of San Diego, and it was interesting enough but all the "ghost sightings" we experienced were obviously set up, so we decided not to pay them and so got it for free! Well it did pass 2 hours quite well!!
Saturday 12th July (wooohoooo!!)
An early start saw me facing an 8 hour bus journey to Phoenix, Arizona! Yesterday I had bought myself food to eat on the way including a lovely "onion" bagel. When I bit into it it was clearly NOT onion, but jalapeno... Dad, I could just imagine your reaction, which made me laugh for the second time on an otherwise silent bus! I got into Phoenix and stepped off the bus and the heat alsmost floored me!! About 104 degrees I think, if not more! I got to my king sized bed with large TV and stayed there for the rest of the day, my taxi driver, Larry, had told me that the area I was in wasn't safe... which I picked up on myself when I noticed the strip bar opposite the hotel! Classy! I did catch up on my TV and watched the movies Rumour Has It and The Simpsons Movie! It was good!!
Sunday 13th July
I was very lazy today and didn't get outta bed till the housekeeper came a-knockin! I got myself ready and visited Scottsdale, an area of Phoenix which was a $20 cab ride away... doh! I got there and did some window shopping then took a trolley around the Scottsdale old town and downtown areas... in the middle of a storm! Nice! Yeah, thats all I did in Phoenix... I really didn't like it, didn't feel safe there at all! I came back to the hotel where I watched the movies Click, Deep Impact, Stuck on You, and The Holiday!
