Nat and Beck Go Large!
With Kate and James in tow, we started our journey from Bangkok to Koh Phangan. A 6am flight to Koh Samui was fairly uneventful (luckily for James!) and we arrived at the "airport", which was really just an open air shack! After collecting our backpacks from baggage claim, which was only a slightly longer conveyor belt than the ones in Asda, we headed to the port to catch the ferry to Koh Phangan. What an experience! The weather had taken a turn for the worse, and the sea was really choppy, so what should have been a pleasant 45 minute boat crossing turned into the worst rollarcoaster ride ever! Kate and James took post at the back of the boat, sick bags at the ready, while Nat and Becky braved it at the front of the boat. We all made it in one piece, and managed to keep hold of our breakfast too! We then had to negotiate a taxi ride to our resort - of course, we were staying in the furthest place and the rain had turned the roads into mud! We had to get a 4x4 up there, and Kate bumped her head numerous times! Luckily for us, the resort was lovely, though itwould have been nice for a little bit of sunshine! The rain continued til early evening, after it had stopped we had dinner by the poolside and then went back to our comfy beds to watch HBO - non-stop films 24/7! Not before the full-scale mission to rid Nat and Beck's room of two new residents - cockroaches! One had camped on the leg of Becky's bed, and James had to carry the bedframe out to get rid of it! Don't know what we would have done without our hero! The next day, there was no rain, but was still cloudy and miserable. Still had a swim in the pool though, was bloody freezing though! The Full Moon Party had been cancelled due to 3 Swedish people drowning on the beach because of the strong waves, but we decided to go down to the town anyway. Bit of a mistake! We went to a restaurant and ordered some food, Nat had noodle soup which had been had many times before, but after 2 spoonfuls, she had some kind of "episode", and Becky and James had to hotfoot it to the chemist for antihistimines! Panic over, but then James ended up with severe stomach cramps that he could barely walk and we had to go to the walk-in hospital before we could go back to the resort! Becky was drunk though! The last day in Koh Phangan passed by fairly uneventful, we had a swim and ate in the resort and watched record amounts of HBO. Also Becky and Nat enjoyed what would be their last hot shower for a while as we would be returning to budget accomodation! We got the ferry back to Koh Samui on Sunday morning, which was thankfully less of a trauma than the way there, and parted ways with Kate and James, who were flying onto Bangkok. Made our way to Chaweng beach, hoping that better weather was on the way so we could be brown for Christmas!! Big thanks to Kate and James for everything while they were here, we had a great time with you both despite all the hiccups! Love you long time!!!
