Nat and Beck Go Large!
After a numerous amount of attempts, we are pleased to inform you all that we have seen the sights of Bangkok!!! We are most impressed with ourselves, and took lots of pics to prove it! We went to see the Grand Palace, the Emerald Buddha and Wat Pho (reclining Buddha).
We started in the grounds of the Grand Palace, very gold and sparkly, like a giant handbag! As per usual, there was a multitude of Japanese tourists swarming round taking a million pictures. We then went into the temple to see the Emerald Buddha, actually made of jade. We expected to see this massive, impressive green Buddha, but he wasn't bigger than the average teddy bear, just sitting on top of a gold high alter, most disappointed! We had to take our shoes off to enter the temple, and the amount of feet and toes on show nearly gave Becky heart failure.
We then carried on walking round the grounds of the palace, and saw the changing of the guard - not nearly as polished as at Buckingham Palace. We then went to the museum which holds some of the original pieces of the Palace that have fallen off or broken.
Next, we went to Wat Pho, also known as reclining Buddha. Shoes off once again, and we entered the temple to see the biggest set of gold toes ever! All very interesting!
After our strenuous morning of sightseeing, we checked out of our guesthouse and made our way to the hotel we were meeting Kate and James in. Nearly had kittens at the sight of our room and all the freebies in it - free smellies, slippers, dressing gowns, tea and coffee facilities, air con and hot water - heaven!
After drinking the contents of Kate and James' mini-bar, we headed to Soi Rambuttri for noodle soup, before heading to the Irish bar to introduce Kate and James to Thai Missy Elliott and the Bucket - they loved the bucket! After getting suitably drunk, we headed back to Soi Rambuttri to drink beer on the mats. James found new friends and Kate was introduced to the squat toilet. The night cannot be described in words, best just to see the numerous photos taken throughout the course of the night!!
