Nat and Beck Go Large!
After the not so pleasant ferry from Kuata, we arrived at South Sea Island in the pouring rain. The whole island takes less than 5 minutes to walk around, so the general plan for here was to just sunbathe...Mother Nature didn't seem to like that plan though. Got our welcoming brief from the annoying dive instructor (he thought he was the daddy..we thought he was an idiot) and had our buffet dinner, indoors of course. Food was actually quite nice, which was a relief after Kuata. We then sat in the dorm playing cards like the crazy party animals we are.
The next day, we were supposed to going on another boat called Seaspray for a sail round Castaway Island (but we were getting free drinks, so was really just a booze cruise). However, it was still raining and the sea was really rough, so the 7 of us who were going were praying for it to be cancelled. No such luck. We got piled into the island's water taxi to be taken to the ferry. 20 minutes later, we were soaked through and the ferry had only just turned up. We sat shivering on the air-conditoned boat only to be told that yes, the Seaspray had just been cancelled, but we'd have to wait til the ferry had done a round trip back through the islands before we could get off. We eventually got back to South Sea 3 hours later. To pass the time, we played cards and the two Dutch lads, Jacob and Niels, told us about their imaginary lives that they give as answers to people's questions, ie I work in Legoland (which Becky actually believed). They even made up names and occupations for us...Becky is Maxima, from Portugal and she grooms chihuahuas for a living, and Nat is Delilah from Macedonia, she's just a fisherman's wife.
That night, we finally found something in the bar that goes well with the 2 litres of gin we'd brought with us to the islands - orange and mango Schweppes and proceeded to make up for lost time. Becky also bought 2 crabs to compete in the crab races downstairs (Gordon and Lulu) and Gordon was a star, almost won until some American horror scared him by putting her put down in front of him so her Yank friend's crab would win - how rude! Did we mention we don't like Americans?
Our final day in South Sea was gorgeous, proper scorchio, so we singed ourselves on the beach all day and returned to Nadi that evening, with our longed for tan!
