Nat and Beck Go Large!
We arrived at Kuata Island, which was surprisingly a nice resort considering the amount of bad reports we had heard about it. Then it was dinner time. We had rice and some kind of spicy chicken, whilst watching the numerous geckos on the ceiling having their own feast. One lucky gecko managed to catch a huge moth for his tea...he couldn't believe his luck, and didn't have a clue how he was going to eat it all. He positioned himself above Nat and Louise's heads and proceeded to try and get his mouth round the big brown moth...he did manage to eat most of it, but a fair few bits of wings did float down around us...thankfully, we'd finished our dinner by that time.
The next day, almost the entire dorm got up at the ungodly hour of 5am for the sunrise summit walk, which was supposed to be easy. However, one girl didn't make it to the top...she wasn't in the best attire for walking to be honest, dress and flip-flops were her chosen outfit...but it was pretty hard-going in some parts. It was worth it though, the sunset was lovely, think it's the first one we've seen sober! We went back for breakfast and then went off to do some kayaking...for the entire half-hour we were out in the kayak, we b****ed at each other, kept smashing each others oars and could not get the damn thing to go in a straight line. We then retired to the sand hoping to be left alone for the rest of the day.
It was not to be. The staff had decided to do games since it was Easter Monday...egg and spoon, sack races and volleyball. We couldn't get out of it no matter where we hid, one of the blokes was determined to get us all together. We dutifully sat and watched some bloke open coconuts with his teeth, laughed as one of the girls who had made up the numbers in the sack race lost her bikini bottoms, and half-heartedly cheered on the volleyball. One girl, we named her Miss Competitive, was determined to play volleyball...we thought she'd be really good, but every time she shouted "I've got it I've got it", the ball either ended up on the other side of the beach or at her feet..not a superstar like she made out to be. There was also one of the staff member's grandson playing...he had a little square head and tried his very best to hit the ball..but that damn Miss Competitive kept getting in his way..did we mention she was American?
Lunch was served on the beach after all the fun and games...poor Jess got the worst bit of "meat" - mostly bone, and raw flesh. Needless to say, it didn't go down very well. We quickly discovered that every meal (apart from Brekkie) consisted of rice and some sort of curry, made up of whatever was left in the kitchen. Veggies got rice and a bit of egg...appetising.
The next day, we had no activities planned and we knew the staff would be occupied with the new intake that had arrived, so we earmarked the day for sunbathing...well, what do you know, it was fecking cloudy all day. And when it came to getting on the boat to get on the Flyer, the wind had whipped the sea into a right frenzy, we had to go to the other side of the island, climb over a million rocks andliterally fling ourselves into the little fishing boat..we did'nt think we were going to make it, and the traditional Farewell song the staff were singing to us sounded strangely like the music at the end of Titanic! We made it to the Flyer just about and sailed off to our next island.
