So...from Livingstone, we waved goodbye to our surrogate parents and old chums (i was actually sobbing like a baby!!!)and got on to our new truck with our new guides Frikk and Sonja.
To be honest, after being spoilt rotten by LeDish, anything else would be a let down. On this part of the trip our tents and equipment were old and battered as opposed to the brand new ones we were previously using. We also had to do everything ourselves e.g. make breakfast and lunch and pack and unpack everything. Before, we were woken up by LeDish who had prepared breaky for us and washed up and put away everything! : ( . Anyway we soon got over it....or not!!haha.
The first two days involved repeating the Chobe and Elephants sands, where we had been before livingstone as the new group had come from up north and so had not been to a game reserve yet! that for us was a little boring as you can imagine. We then drove for a long time before reaching the South African border. The roads on the this part of the trip were much rougher (although Frikks speedy gonzalez driving over the potholes didnt help either). On our 1st night in South Africa we stayed in a campsite where they cooked dinner for us - that was one good thing, that we never cooked for the entirety of the 6days apart from breaky and lunch. The next day we went to a lovely campsite in the greater Kruger park and Laura and i chose to upgrade to a room with a double bed! this was unbelievable as you can imagine!!!
Being here also meant we had access to a very exclusive game reserve that was near by called Thornybush. It costs 600.00 pounds to be taken on a game drive and several thousand pounds a night for accomodation but some of the guides offered night drives as some money on the side! Well it was definately worth it! we were driven in roofless landrover defenders with very experienced and professional guides. For the 1st time in a reserve these guys drove off the roads into the bush where they got us very VERY close to some of the animals. We found a pride of lions resting next to a tree and we were literally 1.5ms away! phenomenal. we also got very close top buffallo and white rhinos which were cute! We were cooked for again which was good and ate around the fire.
The following morning we were picked up by more trucks that took us to the national Kruger park. This was a huge disappointment. Ranging over 2m hecters meant that animals were scarse and rarely seen. we saw almost nothing! the drive lasted all day and it was hot and tiering! on return a few people went on another private drive to thornybush where they saw a leopard but i chose to chill in my room on my nice soft bed!!! Before dinner we were sang to by local children which was really sweet!
I obviously slept like a log that night and refused to get out of bed in the morning! This was our last day on the truck as we were driven to JO'burg. WE stayed in an old mansion that night.
The next day we looked round the shops and then went to the airport where i managed to get an upgrade on my flight to sydney! it was absolutely brilliant. a choice of food, champers and a reclining seat! easily satisfied!
Iam now in Sydney and havent done much! i di however book a seat on the Oz Experience bus that departs tommorow morning! i'll report more once iv done something! - oh i did have my legs waxed actually which was nice!
Love you all x x x
