Hi guys,
In Byron Bay at the moment! The capital of surf boards and six packs - it really is very depressing! should so have thought about a diet before i left!!! haha. Anyway, i joined the Oz Bus in Sydney and have been lucky to land a cool set of people travelling up the coast with me. My new groupies are two (very) Northern girls from between Manchester and Bolton (the actually abrieviate 'the' to 't' its brilliant)!! They have long term boyfriends too which is good as we're in the same boat.
The first stop after Sydney was at Surf camp where we stayed over night. The staff were brilliant and really got involved. We stayed up late and drank 'goon' (the new leathal weapon: wine in a box that contains fish and egg products!!! i know!!!) around the fire and got to know everyone! Then afew hours later we had to be up, packed and breakfasted out and ready to begin our first surf lesson!
Being a little tipsy meant that my first experience was highly amusing!!! the teachers were fab and helped to keep me sturdy on the board (that is lying down on the bloody thing and not standing up!!! lol) Only joking, i was naturally ace at it!! Got up almost straight away (gotta remain modest you see!) and rode a few little waves! Bought the photos to prove it!!!
From there we got on back on the bus where our legendary bus driver 'Forest' (yes as in GUMP) gave a little shpeel about the east coast, byron and even stopped at the side of the road so that we could take a few piccies of kangaroos! very exciting!
In the afternoon we arrived in Byron, where we have been for a few days! Sunbathing on the beach is the main actvity at the moment. The girls and i share a flat here and so we made the most of the kitchen the other night when i cooked spaghetti with bacon, cream and mushrooms - stevie's favourite! this was followed by our desert wine - goon!!! haha. we spent a few hours in the bar across the road : cheeky monkey's and then thought to call it a night or morning im not sure!
We have been advised that the east coast is expecting lighting and thunder storms over the next few days which sucks a bit but nothing will spoil this mood. We had our first Ozzie downpour last night which was a little frightening. we stayed in for a bit and then went out for a thai dinner - yummy. Today we have to book the next part of our trip which will take us to Surfers Paradise. I have been advised by many an ex and current traveller not to bother going but as im here and the girls have some friends to meet there, we thought we'd pop over for a day or so, just to say we've been.
Anyhows, for the moment that is my news. Keep the messages coming, im thoroughly enjoying reading them!!!
Loving you all lots and lots
The Surf Queen! x
