We have spent the last two and a half days in Lucerne wandering around the old town and just enjoying the relative quiet of this city.
Our hotel was right in the heart of the old town and just near the Chapel Bridge. We had good weather for the first day and a half so we were able to wander along the lake and enjoy a picnic lunch with the ducks surrounded by snow capped Swiss alps. Today has been wet, mostly falling as wet snow so we have enjoyed hot chocolate, pizza and an afternoon watching skiing on the tv (commentary in German but it didn't matter).
Language here is interesting - German with an Italian lilt but English is commonly used for tourists. The restaurant at the hotel we have stayed at is Italian and serves great pizza and pasta. We have had dinner here 2 nights and lunch today so we are well known now. They are very friendly and it has been fun.
Tomorrow we head off to Milan - 2 trains through the Alps so we are looking forward to the scenery along the way.
Will add some photos of Lucerne to the album and then let you know how we get on in Milan in a couple of days.
