I know this post will make you jealous. I am sitting on the port side of the ship watch us approach Lisbon, Portugal! It is so surreal. I can't even describe it. Lots of students are sitting outside watching us arrive and enjoying the beautiful sunny weather and the amazing view. Today we will dock in Lisbon, but we will not be able to disembark the ship until Saturday morning. We are doing that to save fuel and to meet our textbooks which should be arriving tonight.
We have two trips planned in Portugal so far. We are going to take a cooking class and we are doing a Segway tour of the older portion of the city. Other than than, I have taken pictures of several different walking tours from a guidebook in the library and I think we will do that for the other few days we are there.
Yesterday we had our first classes and they seemed to go really well. Geno and I are teaching 3 courses total. I am teaching Musical Theatre History, he is teaching Comparative Theatre and we are both teaching an acting class together. Yesterday was weird because we had been prepping for class and so there wasn't really that much to do yesterday. It made me a little crazy because you feel like you should be prepping but you are already ready. It is hard to just sit and read a book when you just want to teach. Our classes are all at the end of the day so there was a lot of anticipation.
After class we had some dinner and went up to the Glazer Lounge and played some games with the other faculty. Some of the other students had organized a trivia night and a lot of them were doing their homework all over the ship.
As I have been sitting out in my lounge chair writing this blog the crowd has increased and several students are playing their music. It is a very exciting feeling for them I am sure. I bet it is going to be hard to keep them on the ship tonight and all day tomorrow!
