I have NEVER…NEVER seen a more beautiful place than Norway. We had a full class day today and then we got off the ship at 6:00pm and 44 of us boarded our bus for an organized SAS trip called The Best of Norway. I don't see how tomorrow can be any better than today but we have 3 more days to go.
As we traveled by bus from Bergen to our hotel we went through about 40 tunnels in only about 2.5 hours. They have dug tunnels to connect the roads in their mountains and we hear that tomorrow we are going through the longest car tunnel in the world. It is 15 miles long. The landscape is absolutely stunning. Our views out of the bus window today were of towering mountains, perfect green meadows, waterfalls of all shapes and sizes, all of which was surrounding fjords, lakes and rivers. Every single person on the bus had HUGE smiles on their faces the entire way. I just can't believe what we are seeing.
When we arrived at our hotel we were dumbfounded. The hotel is a big red wooden building that is nestled into the side of a mountain. It is called the Stalheim hotel. You MUST google it. The views are out of this world and our hotel room is on the top floor with windows that swing out wide into the chilly air. When we arrived we got settled in our room, which is the most beautiful shades of green and red (very shabby chic). There is no TV and no wifi. Just gotta enjoy the nature folks.
After an amazing dinner at 9pm(which is included in our tour) we went out to take some photographs of the amazing rocky cliffs and valley. We were telling Dean David who is leading this trip that we really wish we could share this experience. I really with my parents were here to see this. Dad, I know you are reading this and you in particular would LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
We needed to walk off our big dinner and since the sun doesn't set until 11pm we wandered into the woods and up a trail that lead to an old village. There were cottages and an old red school house. I mean, you can't make this stuff up!
Now it is 11:30 and we are headed to bed. Tomorrow we have a 7am breakfast and 8am departure for a ferry, more sightseeing and a cruise. Truly blessed and duly grateful!
