[8th April - Surfer's/Brisbane "all you can eat!"] Today Trac and I took full advantage of the all you can eat pancakes - 5 each and we were sadly defeated! It's been another grizzly day in Paradise - we checked out the tallest apartment blocks in the world, we did want to go up to the very top but as funds are a bit low we decided to give it a miss and so spent most of the day down the beach despite the weather!
Travelled up to Brisbane this evening, not before stopping at a place when you can 'zorb' down a hill (basically chucked into a huge plastic ball with water and thrown down a hill - lovely!) It actually did look good fun but i sadly didn't partake as it was rather too chilly for my liking! Felt a little awkward as i arrived at my hostel on my own (Tracey had checked into one across the city from me) so I ventured out for food and ended up in China town which was incredible but too pricey for my cracker budget! Headed back, crackers and philly in hand and had an early night, ready to explore what Bris has to offer tomorrow!
[10th April - Brisbane] Yesterday we went to the art gallery and saw the Andy Warhol exhibition which was awesome especially as he's one of my favourite artists! It was really worth the 20bucks we paid to get in, but sadly we couldn't take any photos :( In the afternoon we came across the man made lagoon in the Chinese Botanical Gardens and the place is lush - you wouldn't think such a place exsisted like it in a city!
[11th April - Bris "crikey mate! crocs rule!"] Today we caught the train to the Australia Zoo (made famous by the late Steve Irwin). The place was incredible and really well thought out. You could really see the Irwin's are doing their best for the animals and their welfare! We hung out with the kangaroos, actually being brave enough to sit with them for pictures, but the best part of the day was getting a picture of me holding a koala..what a cuddly thing it was! (A good picture to be framed mum!) Also managed to catch a show at the Crocosieum which featured beautiful birds, snakes and of course some gigantic crocs! There was also a tribute board for Steve full of memerobelia/photos/signed shirts which was incredibly sad to read but after visiting the zoo you really realise how much he put in for the animals and how much respect he had for them! Definitely the best zoo I've ever been to and probably for a long time too!
[15th April - Hervey Bay "we are in no rush - we are in hol-i-day"] Just arrived back from Fraser Island (see photograph) and I have never needed a shower so much in my life - there was sand in places I never knew exsisted - was it worth it? You betcha!! The whole island is incredible! White sandy beaches, clear blue sky, beautiful views and gorgeous weather - what more could you ask for? Back in hervey bay we were put in groups of 10 and were given a 4x4/camping equipment and a shopping list to explore the island with! Typically we went over our 150dollar budget by blowing 270 on food! All the over 21s were able to drive while the under 21s enjoyed the very bumpy ride in the back! There are certain rules and regs you have to comply to but other than that the whole island is free for us to explore/camp on! We were certainly out in the middle of nowhere though - deep rainforests opening up to gorgeous lakes and then a 75km long beach - but no showers/toilets!! Waking up on the beach and cooking on a stove while watching the sunrise has got to be up there with one of the top best feelings in the world! Each morning we would pack up our stuff and move on up the island, but came back to the same place on the beach at night to sleep! It was a really good place to chill out and reflect on things - there's nothing quite like sitting on the beach watching the waves crash about while mulling over your thoughts - if i hadn't needed a shower so bad I could have easier stayed there much longer! Couldn't really have asked for a better group either - we all got on and no arguments were had, and we came back with a huge amount of food!! - it was an awesome experience and one i'll never forget!
[19th April - Airlie Beach] This place is the gateway to the Whitsundays (of which we unfortunately have to wait a week to sail round) and it is truely beautiful! Most of the guys i met on the bus/at kroombit have gone on their boats today so i'm on my own until Tracy gets here this evening! Yesterday I spent the evening at Kroombit (a cattle station inland in the wild bush!) and met up agin with Jen (surf camp) who introduced me to Kim. We really made the most of the visit and it made the evening so much fun spending it with them! We did clay pidgeon shooting which typically meant i missed every shot, however on my first round apparently i shot the white wadding in the bullet which was unheard of! haha! The next activity was the goat rodeo to with team "no-one shot billy" (me, Kim and Jen - don't ask about the name!!) clearly should have won (we did come 2nd, getting a penalty because i 'branded' Kim! - sadly to say i have now acquirred the name 'Brandy') One of us had to lasso the goat (jen), then another had to run after it after it had been lassoed and throw it gently onto its back (kim) and then the last part was to brand it (with a cold rod) on its behind (me)!! It was really good fun although I felt rather sorry for the poor goats who got rather abused! Once we got back to camp and had dinner (a typical cattle station roast) it was time for the mechanical bull to which i sat out due to my track record of hurting myself! And then came the drinking games..'my little red bull' is sadly one I think we will all remember..kissing Sam's teeth was not really what i had planned for the evening! Then after a couple of rounds of "kissing" musical chairs, we retired to bed ready for our 11hr journey to Airlie Beach, to where i happen to be right now! :)
So there we go a semi-short account of what i've been up to! Hopefully i will be able to update more frequently in future so there isn't too much for you all to read! I'm in Airlie Beach for the week now and then sailing on a very posh/expensive yacht round the Whitsundays from Sunday-Tuesday - very excited!! much love to you all, missing you all very much! xxxxxxxxx
