Hello to New Zealand! I've actually already been here for 2 1/2 weeks but i've been on a tour bus moving around everyday so I haven't had time to post for a while. A rubbish excuse but there you go. Before I tell you all what i've been up to over here I must tell you that all my photos are on facebook.... for some reason this site doesn't want to upload my pictures so that's where i'm putting them for the time being.
Right, welll I landed in Christchurch over 2 weeks ago to freezing temperatures of 10 degrees.... not impressed. I spent a couple of days exploring the city and then headed out on the Stray bus ( a tour company around New Zealand). Our first stop was Kaikoura to go on a whale watch and swim with dolphins, but the weather was so bad that they were cancelled so instead we spent the afternoon sitting in a pub, wound the fire doing a pub quiz. Fun but not as much fun as a whale watch.... The next morning we headed over to Abel Tasmen and stayed just outside a huge national park in huts on a farm. We went on an awesome tour around the national park 1/2 the day spent on the water and 1/2 the day on land. It was beautiful. That evening we went to an open mike night at the local pub which was really good fun. The Kiwis are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet.
After Abel Tasmen we spent a night in a little town called Barrytown where we all dressed up and went to the bar and then some people did bone carving in the morning where others (myself included) decided that a lie in was much more appealing. Then we headed to Franz Josef where the glacier is and guess what.... we climbed the glacier and in my case fell down the glacier :-s. Itw as a great day..... very long and tiring but the glacier is beautiful and we hiked up it for at least 6 hours so we got to see a lot of it. A few of us stayed an extra day in Franz Josef to celebrate St Paddy's Day in style :-) and then headed down to Makaroura where some crazy people went to do Kareoke and the rest of us, sane people, went to bed to recover from Paddy's day.
Then it was Queenstown...... and no I didn't do a bungee jump.... my feet stayed firmly on the ground. I did however see a lot of where Lord of the Rings was filmed which was pretty cool but also a bit disappointing. Did anyone else know that the big stone guardians in the first film were fake..... I know I was shocked, they don't actually exist :-). So we spent a few says chilling out in Queenstown and then headed back up to Christchurch where we all parted ways.
I then went up to Picton for a night before sailing across the Cook Strait to the North Island to Wellington and i'm now in Taupo. PHEW! So i've been to a lot of places in the last 2 weeks but i've had such a good time and done some amazing things.
Right, I promise i'll write again soon. I arrive in Auckland on Saturday and then i'm going up to the Bay of Islands and Cape Reinga etc which should be good.
Take Care
