Neil's Round the World Trip!
We had breakfast in Apollo Bay in a little bakery. I finally tried the Australian delicacy; the meat pie and sauce. It was quite nice. Rob had wallaby pie or "roadkill pie" as the locals call it.
We drove along the coast until we reached the famous Twelve Apostles (the pic above). It's pretty spectacular, huge limestone craggy peaks with really rough surf crashing against the beaches. We drove further along the coast and stopped off at Loch Ard Gorge where a ship was wrecked with everyone drowning. We also saw the nearby Blowhole and Thunder Cave. We later drove to London Bridge which was a famous limestone bridge to a craggy limestone island. However in 1990 the bridge collapsed and left a couple conducting an extra-marital affair stranded on the island!
We had a break in Port Campbell and went for a swim in the sea which was freezing!! It was good but I got a bit sunburnt!!
We contined along the coast to Port Fairy and checked in to the YHA hostel. We then walked around the Griffith Island with big sand dunes. There were loads of fish in the lagoons and crayfish.
We went to the supermarket and bought steak, sausages, pork chops etc and had a BBQ in the hostel garden. Later we watched Pearl Harbour in the TV room and had a few tinnies. We were the only guests in the hostel...
