Neil's Round the World Trip!
I woke up around 10 and had one last freezing cold shower before checking out of the International Backpackers. I walked into the centre and caught a tram to St Kilda. I arrived in the seaside suburb and walked past Luna Park with the iconic Mr Moon entrance (which I'll get a photo of before I leave). The base hostel is maybe $5 more a night than most other hostels but for an extra 2 pounds it's well worth it. Aaah..air-conditioning, en-suite shower/bathroom, bar with promos, pool tables, internet. I spoke to Dale a Yorkshire guy in my dorm and then met Rob and Donna. We had a few pints in the beer garden of the Prince of Wales Pub. It was 39c and really uncomfortable although there was a breeze later which helped. We got a tram to the Australian Open Tennis Championships and were going to watch a match but all matches were postponed due to the extreme heat. We had a meal in Loco's Spanish tapas bar and then had a few more drinks in a crowded pub (due to the air-conditioning) people were taking refuge from the heat.
Later we headed back to St Kilda and had a few drinks in the Red Eye Bar (the hostel's bar). I then joined others on a backpacker night which was free and so we got free beer in Spy Lounge (some club in the city) and then the Bubble VIP Bar. We had free beer all night but it was pretty minging beer but alcoholic all the same (My dad wouldn't have approved of me drinking such low quality beer!!)
I was chatting to an Irish guy called Paddy (yes that was his name) in our group and he said: "You know something you're the double of Ewan McGregor, isn't he?" I told him people have said that in the past but they are generally very drunk when they tell me!
When the free drink ended at 1am we got a taxi back to the hostel and had cheese slices on toast in the hostel kitchen.
