Neil's Round the World Trip!
We were all woken up at 7.30am by a horn and had breakfast. We then sailed in the hot, humid conditions to a sheltered bay near Whitehaven beach. We were taken by dinghy to the beach and then walked to the lookout which had the most amazing view of Whitehaven beach. It was the whitest sand I've ever seen and the clearest water-spectacular!!
We then walked down to the beach and swam in the shallow waters (In our stinger suits of course-there's dangerous jellyfish out there!!) The suits made everyone look like they were wearing Star Trek suits!
The water was warm and we saw stingrays swimming near us in the shallow water. We sunbathed and took photos before Skipper (the captain) arrived in the dinghy to take us back to the boat.
We had a buffet lunch on the boat which was stuff like: cold meat, salad, rice etc. We then set sail for the snorkelling area. I realised on the way that I hadn't been sunbathing but sunburning as my back, legs and face were burnt to a crisp! We reached the snorkel zone and jumped in only to find jellyfish swimming all around and it's really hard to distinguish nice jellyfish and killer jellyfish so I just freaked out whenever I saw any jellyfish! The fish were amazing and I saw this huge fish called a Wrasse I think. The corals were all amazing much better than the reef near Cairns. We got to snorkel for an hour so I was exhausted when we got back n the boat.
Later as the sunset although this time behind clouds we had a BBQ. It became dark by 7pm and then we saw these strange fluorescent squid all around the boat. We played some drinking games later and I managed to shotgun one of the best benches to sleep on. I had a much better sleep. The time on the boat has gone so fast even though we were on habibi time which means any time-so the captain kept reminding us!
The toilet blocked last night because a girl put a tampon down the loo even though there is 4 huge signs in the toilet saying "Do not dispose of tampons here, use the bin" The smell was really bad until they managed to unclog it.
