Neil's Round the World Trip!
I got up around 9 and checked out and said goodbye to the Canadian guys and Mike. I spoke to Dave the owner who told me my key hadn't been found by the cleaners so I lost my $16 deposit. I was pretty pissed off as I left it next to the computer so someone has taken it for no reason!!
I was waiting at the beach bus stop when Laura (Canadian girl) appeared and said that her and some of the other girls were going to rent a car and head to the Blue Mountains (that was my planned destination today too).
I agreed to accompany her to the rental place as she wasn't sure where it was but then I was going to get my train to Katoomba. We arrived at the discount car rental yard and the girls were looking miserable (turned out you need to be 23 to drive and they were all 22). Suddenly they looked at me "Could you drive for us?" I was hesitant as I haven't driven in a year and that was passing my driving test. I couldn't let them down so I decided I would do it (plus I liked the challenge and it only cost me $5) So off we went after a few pictures in front our Ford Rio. It was an automatic so I was apprehensive at first but the Canadian girl gave me a brief overview and off we went. I couldn't believe how easy an automatic car is. Although my left foot and hand kept were frustrated with nothing to do. The indicators were on the opposite side of the steering wheel so instead of turning right I put my wipers on a few times!!
The girls were in a boistrous mood and had the tunes playing loudly! They kept repeating Nizlopi JCB :) Lyndsey from Edmonton was in the front with me and then Anita (Ireland), Jesse (Stirling, Scotland) and Laura were in the back.
We somehow managed to navigate our way from Sydney to the Blue Mountains. We had to go through a toll on the way $2 (I'll come back to this later). The drive took 2 hours and we parked in a Kmart in Katoomba. The girls all bought track tops with "Bondi Girls Team" for $5 each. Lyndsey is a really brash, loud girl and ordered the other girls to get them because it looks "cool".
We had a Dominoes pizza and then went to Echoe Point where took plenty pictures of the Three Sisters. The weather took a turn for the worst and we headed into a chocolate shop and had sensational chocolate brownies and an ceramic DIY hot chocolate thing which was amazing.
I drove us on to numerous viewpoints in torrential rain and then decided I didn't want to stay in Katoomba anymore as I'd seen the main thing-The Blue Mountains. So I drove the girls home and on the way sped through the toll without paying (hopefully they didn't see us). We drove into Sydney and got lost for an hour before arriving back at the hostel.
I was exhausted but also relieved as I'd come through unscathed having driven 4 noisy girls on a long journey in an automatic on dodgy Australian roads.
I checked back into the Bondi Sands for one more night. I bought some beer with Mike and we joined the others on the rooftop for drinks and listened to music.
Me and Mike went to the Turkish bar nearby and had a nice healthy chicken kebab :)
