Neil's Round the World Trip!
I got up early and had a hot shower. I then had a breakfast with Jose and wolfed down some rolls and hot tea. I walked to school earlier than I should have as I didn't know the exact time. I sat around in the courtyard while the school's puppy chewed at my jeans and jumper! I chatted to an American guy called Chris who's studying at the school before classes started. I met a few other people from Switzerland. I had my lesson with Carmen and we had irregular verb revision. On my break I paid Janine for the week and spoke to an Austrian guy called Marco. Today was his first day at the school he's here for two weeks. We sat in the sunny courtyard and listened to Janine tell us about the possible weekend excursions. There are two options climbing Tupari mountain (5,300m) or going to incan ruins in the countryside. After Machu Picchu, Inca ruins will be a disappointment so I'm getting up on Saturday at 5am and doing the Tumari mountain.
I sat in the courtyard with Carmen and had conversational classes for the remainder of the class. It was fun and gave me more confidence. I agreed to meet Marco and head into the city later. I had my lunch with my family and enjoyed slurping down on my floating potato soup followed by salad with manà sauce (peanut sauce). Me and Marco got the bus into the city and then walked to the main shopping street. Marco was searching for some jeans but the jeans here are terrible and finding even a 30'leg is hard as most people are really small.
We walked through the main plaza and there was a demonstration taking place. Lots of campesinos walking around the square shouting, holding up traffic. We walked to Cafe Express and Marco saw Cafe Escocés con whisky and wanted us to try some. I agreed and we had it but the whisky was Jack Daniels so was a bit different to what I expected but still the ambience in the place was nice. Lots of people just relaxing on stools reading their papers and sipping their espressos.
We then walked around the city past street markets and reached a great salteña restaraunt. We ate a salteña which is like a Cornish pasty but much better and has delicious spicy juice that squirts out when you bite into it!
I love salteñas! They are moreish.
We got on a bus back to our neighbourhood, there were two drunks who were sat near us. They yabbered on about the Da Vinci Code and kept asking us if we'd seen it we told them we hadn't and they asked us the same question again..blootered! Anyway they were beginning to get a bit annoying, a boy next to us called Marcelo translated their incoherent speech for us and got off at our stop. He lives in my street and his father owns the internet cafe there.
I had dinner with Jose: mystery meat mainly. Jose is really interested in the Da Vinci Code and so he rattled off all his theories about Jesus and Mary Magdalene. I was really tired and so retired to my room and revised my Spanish then hit the sack!
