After waking on the night bus and heading to a local bus for the bumpiest ride ever we arrived in the little town of Sayulita. We immediately fell in love with the town. The houses, shops and food stalls started to immerge out of the jungle and we walked down the mud track, across the bridge and into the centre looking for a hostel. It was very laid back and hot! Perfect. The locals were already getting on with their day to day business of street food, cafes, juice bars or surf lessons and were all very friendly. We found a place to stay, settled in an headed straight down to the beach. This was the story for the first three days here. The town had the best Mexican food we had experienced so far! Tacos on every corner, chocolate bananas and other cakes and bakeries, hundreds of smoothies bars (my biggest weakness) and other nice restaurants. We enjoyed our time here that it was the fourth day before we had really realised! This day the rains came, and in a surf town this basically means everything shuts and you sit it out, and that is what we did. We read and chilled out in the hostel all day just hoping for the skies to clear ready for the following day. Saturday morning the sun returned and so did we to our spot on the beach. We enjoyed a quiet stroll, watching the sunset and the locals in the evenings and reading throughout the days. As it was Saturday and the locals had come down for the weekend we decided to have our special Mexican and for me travelling last night today. We chose a recommended restaurant on the square and enjoyed the BEST mojitos, the BEST shrimp tacos and the BEST rice and beans we have both had. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and all the locals were gathering in the main square drinking and socialising. After dinner we joined them and started chatting to a few. We then went on to a bar had our last tequila shots and ended in a salsa bar. I think we both did Mexico proud. The next morning however we decided we did not like our hostel with too much weed and cigarette smoke, loud music from reception and no fans we were ready to try somewhere else. After talking to some people the night before we decided to try couch surfing. We were meaning to do it the whole trip and didn't end up sorting it out so with only a few nights left in Sayulita we thought why not and sent a message to a guy who had a place just round the corner. This is when our Sayulita experience improved drastically and resulted in a complete different experience of the town, hence the two parts.
