India has dozens of states across the country. With this there are hundreds of languages spoken. I couldn't even imagine, and I was in India!
Australia has seven states and one mother language. Imagine travelling two hours South and having to talk another language and follow different customs.
And with every state and every different language they have to market differently, or create films with content that that culture would enjoy.
When we visited a sound dubbing studio the main actress of the film was going over her acting with the lines she had said to make it more clear with the final cut. She spoke English and Hindi, however the film was in Punjabi. She had to speak another language - one she did not fully understand herself. It was fascinating watching her go over the lines and be corrected by the writer on the pronunciation of a lot of the words.
The marketing involved with films varies across the states.
Public Relations Guru, Komal Lath told us about how they do Press Appearances in Dehli for an upcoming film. They do promotions with films and movie stars for upcoming projects in places like Dehli and Mumbai. But with the small villages that's not necessary.
Viveck Kajaria told us of how when they filmed Fandry, they gave numerous screenings to the village they filmed in, right after release and no marketing for attendance was needed.
Fandry is also a film that can be enjoyed by Indian villages. However, a film like Anybody Can Dance 2 was not even released to the villages because they would not go and watch that type of content, as Suparn Verma had told us.
It's a very different thing to grasp in India - the cities versus the rural villages and how their use of demographic segmentation would be vastly different from a western culture.
