Hello everyone,
Alright first I have to say I'm not the biggest fan of blogs, but I think this will be the easiest way to keep everyone updated on my au pair experience.
I arrived into Paris yesterday morning at 8:00. The plane ride was forever long and the funky air pressure has messed up my sinuses. The BG group studying abroad in France got into the airport at the exact same time as I did, so I hung out with them in the airport for a few hours. It good to see them and tell them what to expect. It was also kind of a "whoah" moment. Two years ago I was in their shoes and now I am back with a job and everything.
After the BG group left I went to the train station. I had to take the RER (Parisian suburban subway) to my train station. Hauling my two big suitcases and my two carry-on bags through the Parisian subway was no walk in the park, but I survived. Then I had a 3 1/2 hour train ride to Annecy. My au pair mother, Sophie, greeted me at the train station.
When we got to the house, the kids were in the front yard in their skivies, throwing rocks at trees. An interesting first impression, no doubt. I live with the family, on the side of a mountain. The house is REALLY nice. Everything thing is new and top of the line. Some of the luxuries include a pool, stairs made of glass, an incredible view of the city and lake, heated floors, three cars, memory foam beds, and a 60 inch television. Simply put, I am living the good life.
The family is awesome. The dad, Jean-Marc is very tall, especially for a Frenchman. He works a lot, but he is very welcoming and generous. The mom, Sophie, is very nice as well. She is very direct and energetic. I could see her doing very well in New York. Sophie's mother, Joséphine is here for the week until am more comfortable with the daily routine. The kids are very cute. Edgar is 5 and Gabin is 6 going on 7. Gabin can be fussy at times but he is a very curious child. Edgar is sensitive and energetic. He has a big heart and loves hugs, cuddling etc.
I am VERY happy that I decided to au pair instead of going right into teaching. I couldn't be happier. This is a gorgeous city, a welcoming family and a wonderful country that I fall more and more in love with everyday.
