So Friday, Ollie has the "great" idea of visiting the Hollywood Museum! "It's full of old tv and film sets as well as loads of costumes" he says! So off we trot to the museum that has great reviews online and appears to be a bit of a hidden gem! Once there we are greeted by a woman who must of been in 70's if not 80's but thought she was still living in the 1950's! This is when we should have been suspicious! She talked to us about all the amazing things we were going to see, the possessions of all those actors from the "good time of Hollywood" and directed is to a flight of stairs to climb! The first floor was great, it was full of Marilyn Monroe's possessions and life story, which really was very interesting! But after that it all just got a little bit weird! The rest of the Museum is full of costumes worn by characters or actors that we didn't know or really random bits of film memorabilia that anyone in the film obviously didn't feel like keeping! Oh plus the whole floor dedicated to Max Factor and how the make-up made the stars what they were!
First backpacker pot noodles had that night! Yum (ish), the bottle of wine that we found cheap from the 7-eleven helped wash it down!
Saturday we loved! We took the Metro train to Union Street where you can find Little Mexico! This place is just a little tiny street which they have turned into a small market full of stalls selling Mexican crafts, sweets and food! We spent all morning going up and down the street looking at all the stalls and trying to determine which place we should get food at! The colours and smells were amazing! The day of the dead artwork and trinkets were our favourite!
After eating we jumped on a bus to Santa Monica! Santa Monica by far outshines Venice Beach! It is much more cosmopolitan and you don't get people coming up to you for money! We had a walk along the pier where you can find Bubba Gump Shrimp and loads of theme park rides, then we headed into town and walked around all the shops, bars and street performers before heading back to the hostel for our second pot noodle night!
Waking up to a rainy Sunday, we decided to walk down to the Hollywood farmers market! This was full of the most amazing fruit and veg, some of which we had never seen before: Chinese dates were one, and picked ourselves up a giant Greek meze each for lunch for only $5 and then found Trader Joes! No more pot noodles for us!
We then spent the afternoon planning our move on from LA, deciding on the Greyhound to Las Vegas rather than heading up the Pacific Coast as all the places we wanted to stay are full! And of course doing our first lot of washing! Five pairs of pants doesn't last long! As Ollie will tell you having to go commando on the sixth day!!!!
So today we have had a lazy day, bumming around the hostel, getting Skype to work, and playing card games in readiness for Vegas tomorrow! (do they play s***head in Vegas??). We catch the bus at 10.20 and should arrive in Vegas at 16.20 and have got ourselves a bargain of a room at $17 a night! And we think we may be staying there for up to a week at least!
Next time you hear from us we'll probably be working off the debt we made from trying to double our money on the tables!
