Well we made it safely to LA! The plane journey was great! New Zealand Airlines were very keen to show off their wares as often as they could, and so we took advantage of sampling the free New Zealand wine on offer!! We landed into LAX about 30 ahead of schedule, but that meant that we landed at the same time as four other flights!! The queue for Customs was then a good two hours long!!
So then it was into a taxi to our hotel for the first night, and a snack and a drink at Denny's before collapsing into bed.
Up early the next day and back to the airport we go on the free hotel shuttle, to get a shuttle bus to the hostel!
The Banana Bungalows is pretty good, we have all you can eat breakfast in the morning, and it is party night most nights!
After dumping our bags we headed straight down Hollywood Boulevard to the Walk of Fame, the Chinese Theatre and the Kodak Theatre, getting our first view of the Hollywood sign as we walked down. We then headed towards Sunset Strip before realising just how big this city is, and no matter how close something looks on the map, it is going to take HOURS to walk there!! Sasha got to experience her fist Chili Dog, and despite ordering veggie dog, Ollie got to try the chili (con carne) too!! After 17 years of being a veggie, it wasn't the greatest reintroduction to meat!!
After getting our fix of Hollywood names in stars, we decided to do a tour of all the Hollywood homes on Wednesday. We hopped on a tour bus complete with comedian tour guide, who really made the tour hilarious! We didn't see any celebs, but laughed all the way for two hours!! Plus like no other tour, we got to see the Hollywood sign close up. and see the filming of a scene they were doing for NCIS. Apparently LL Cool J was there, but we couldn't see him.
Wednesday night in the Banana Bungalows is Karaoke night, which actually means free BBQ and Beer!! (More meat for Ollie to eat!! - Again not too impressed with the reformed meat hotdog!!) So we took full advantage of this!! Which resulted in fuzzy heads the next day, and a very quiet hostel!!
Thursday we tackled the buses and headed to the Farmers market to sample the most delicious food and crafts from all over the world, before jumping back on the bus to the dive that is Venice beach!! Beautiful beach but the place is just full of vagrants, beggars and scammers!! With a very think smell of weed in the air!!
We plan to see some more sites over the next few days in LA, and will update you shortly!
