I arrived to Bangkok a few days before Jn because I couldn't wait to get to Thailand. I met a Danish girl in the airport and we shared a taxi to Kao San road. My hotel was in the middle of nightlife action. The rooftop had a pool, and all the party animals were sun-bathing and lounging around it. It was an interesting place, especially coming from Singapore. The Danish girl gave me a tour of Kao San road. We tasted delicious and unbelievably cheap street food, followed by a bit painful but oh-so-good Thai Massage for only $5. We then decided to join the european cup madness and watched France vs. England match. It was really amusing to watch the English boys with their painted faces and white polo shirts cheering for their team. They hugged and cried when england scored, while drinking huge towers of beer.
You can buy pretty much anything on Kao San Road - from t-shirts and fake id to fried insects. It really is a human zoo after 11pm. The wide street becomes very narrow from all the street vendors, massage places, and bars. The party goes on through the night. The first night I ended up switching rooms because my experiment of staying above a bar didn't go so well. It was a bit crazy to switch rooms at 2am, but I had no idea how I would be able to fall asleep because even earplugs were useless at this point. While I was switching rooms some young guy tried to sneak in a prostitute into his room. He was stopped by the front desk, and reminded about the extra cost of having guests in your room. He had the nerve to argue about it... I couldn't believe it...
The next day after I switched hotels to get a quiet and cheap room, i went exploring the city. I went to Wat Pho with its famous reclining gold Buddha. It was absolutely amazing to see it in person. The temple was really beautiful too, and has been recently restored. I was really blown away by all the gold and mosaic details of the Thai temples.
