Happy Friday! Today at work I reviewed more financial statements :) I also booked my Rio de Janeiro trip with the help of my senior, Fabio! I will be going August 8-August 10! I am so excited! :)
At 5:30 when I left work (which is early for Brazilians) I saw the most amazing sunset! Usually we leave around 7:15, once it is already dark. It was such a pleasant surprise and a great way to finish the work week and welcome the weekend! (Pic is in the Week One Album)
Once I got home, I rested for a little and then went over to Laura's house. We shared music from each of our countries and played with her dog, Buda, which is the cutest French bulldog you'll ever see! Raphael met up with us and then we left to go Samba dancing at Casa Sao Jorge.

This was one of my favorite days of the trip! Deloitte was hosting a work party for Festo Julina (Festival of July). It was at a very nice outdoor venue in Campinas. Prior to traveling to Brazil, the global interns received a Guide to Brazil, with common phrases, safety measures, cultural information, etc. The cultural part stated that if you are going to a party, show up at LEAST 30 minutes late. The party started at noon and Raquel and her boyfriend from the UK, Dan, arrived at 12:50, and we were one of the first ones there!!!! So different from US Culture...for most people ;)
The attire for the party is traditional Brazilian festival dresses (like what Raquel is wearing) or checkerboard pattern (like what Dan is wearing). At the party, there was SO MUCH GOOD FOOD (are you starting to see the trend of this trip?) There were different stations of food: Pastel (cheese, chicken w/ cream cheese, and beef), pork sandwiches, traditional Brazilian hot dogs (which had a hot dog with mashed potatoes, sauce, and small fried potatoes all in a french roll), and corn and beans.
At the party, I got to test my knowledge with numbers as we played BINGO and won prizes.

Later that night, I went to Laura's house again with Raphael, Marina, Marina's fiance, Elisa (Laura's roommate), and Elisa's boyfriend. Laura and Elisa made cheese fondue for everyone for dinner.
After dinner, we went to a bar called Real Brasil. It looked like a large house and on the inside you walk downstairs and there was a dancefloor. They played all Brazilian music so I got to practice my samba moves! The dance floor also looked like it was in the movie Avatar. There were neon green strings hanging from the ceiling so it gave it a jungle/Amazonian feel! I've never seen anything like it!

Today, I relaxed and explored Campinas! Since I will be traveling every weekend until I go back to California, this was my only chance to see my host city during the day! First stop - Acai Bowls. I love acai bowls in CA and I could not wait to try one from the place that it originated! I got to check one thing off of my bucket list when I went to AcaiNow. Like all the other food on this trip, it was INCREDIBLE. The acai bowl exceeded my expectations and I am so happy I can say I've had one from Brazil! :)
My next stop was Parque Taquaral. It is a beautiful park near the center of Campinas with a pond, performance venues, and giant birds. The birds were everywhere and they were about 2-3 feet long! At the park there was a vendor that opened fresh coconuts for you, the water was so fresh and delicious! I posted a video in the Videos section of the blog of it :)
Last I went to eat sushi in Cambui at a restaurant called Temakeria. It was by far the best handroll I've ever had! It was tuna, almonds, ginger, and honey!
That wraps up the weekend!
Tchau!
